Focus:

The 2007 Symposium focus is: Building Partnerships to Address the Academic, Linguistic and Social Needs of Migrant Students. Sessions in the following areas will provide administrators and instructional personnel with information on research-based strategies and accountability systems with the intent to strengthen collaborative efforts and improve supplemental services to assist California migratory students to achieve academic success:

  1. Using Data to Design and Evaluate Effective Programs
  2. Promising Programs & Practices for Migrant Students and English Learners
  3. Improving Leadership & Professional Knowledge
  4. California Department of Education Programs and Initiatives

Target Audience:

  • Regional directors and administrators
  • District and county administrators
  • Instructional program personnel

Purpose:

The purpose of the Leadership Symposium is to assist regions and local educational agencies (LEAs) in implementing effective supplemental instructional and support services to improve the academic achievement of eligible migratory children. This Symposium is part of the California Department of Education's effort to provide technical assistance to LEAs implementing the Title I Migrant Education Program under the No Child Left Behind Act.

Meeting Rooms

The Migrant Education Leadership Symposium workshops will take place at the Wilshire Grand Los Angeles in the Golden State and Pacific Ballrooms, Los Angeles, Wilshire, Garden East, Garden West, Del Mar, Chandler, and Sierra meeting rooms.

Parking

The Wilshire Grand has $20 overnight parking for symposium participants with unlimited in and out privileges, and a special rate of $12 for day parking.

Transport Services

The Wilshire Grand is situated directly across from Metro Central Station and is also serviced by DASH, downtown's commuter express. The hotel also benefits from quick and easy access to LA's four major freeways (Interstates 10, 110, 101, I-5). Super Shuttle is available for transportation from LAX for $14.00 per person each way. Taxi service to the hotel from LAX is $40.00 (flat rate) for up to 4 persons per cab.
