Title I Parental Involvement

This page is provided by the California Comprehensive Center at WestEd (CA CC) in collaboration with the California Department of Education (CDE) and presents information and resources on parental involvement requirements under Title I for administrators, teachers, parent involvement liaisons and other stakeholders and partners.
Involving parents in school decisions and activities is a requirement under Title I Part A of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 and is reflected in the Categorical Program Monitoring (CPM) Instrument for Title I programs under I-CE 1. Districts must:
- Include parents in the process of school review and improvement, including the development of the LEA Plan
- Support effective parental involvement at schools to improve student achievement and school performance
- Build school and parent capacity for strong parental involvement
- Coordinate and integrate Title I, Part A, parental involvement strategies with parental involvement strategies of other programs
- Conduct an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the parental involvement policy
- Involve parents in activities of schools served by Title I
